Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Are you licensed and insured?
A. Yes. Bungalow Homes is insured and performs work under a Class A contractor license in the State of Virginia and Montgomery County, MD.
Q. What type of warranty do you provide?
A. Bungalow Homes offers a one-year warranty on new homes. With new construction, buyers also receive manufacturers' warranties on various products.
Q. Do you build "green?"
A. Where possible, we strive to employ best practices and materials based on the latest thinking around green home building and national guidelines. Our concept of green also relates to the bungalow-style home concept. Bungalows typically have a smaller footprint, scaled in proportion to the lot, and also use less materials and energy resources by virtue of their size. We construct our houses with 2x6 exterior walls, which increases R-value that results in more efficient heating and cooling.
Q. What differentiates Bungalow Homes?
A. A home is most likely the biggest invesment you'll ever make. Bungalow Homes offers a disciplined approach to construction management and budget oversight. It's often more challenging to manage all the business and financial aspects of a construction project, than it is to manage the construction process itself. We bring both perspectives--focusing on not only the delivery of high-quality homes, but ensuring clients receive the best value.
Q. What qualities should I look for in a builder?
A. Besides the obvious credentials such as licenses and insurance, clients should look for experience managing construction projects on time and within budget. They should also be aware that the industry doesn't always groom employees from the budgeting/planning side of things. Customer should ask questions about how a builder manages draws and their overall budgeting approach--in addition to managing the construction process. Communications are always key in any successful client relationship so responsiveness and good listening skills are important as well. Overall, they should be as informed as they can--including verifying licenses and checking credit history, which can tell a lot about a company or individual's ability to manage finances.
